Ørsted and the states of Rhode Island and Connecticut have sued the Trump administration over its decision to block construction of the Revolution Wind project.
Revolution Wind, a joint venture between Ørsted and a consortium led by Skyborn Renewables, filed the complaint in the US District Court for the District of Columbia arguing that Bureau of Ocean Energy Management exceeded its authority under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act in halting the works.
Last month officials issued a stop-work order to Revolution Wind, citing national security concerns, forcing the suspension of a project that was 80 per cent complete and 45 out of 65 wind turbines installed.
Ørsted was forced to open a $9.4bn rights issue recently, with Equinor taking a stake. Revolution Wind was scheduled to be completed in 2026 and produce electricity for Rhode Island and Connecticut.
